Seeing a movie at the movie theater can be super expensive. I like to lower the cost by using free movie tickets that I am able to find. It does take a bit of effort but it is well worth it! This allows me to see a lot of movies as soon as they come out instead of having to wait for them to be released on DVD. This also cuts down on our entertainment budget!

I have been able to see about 6 movies this year for free! I saw the new X-Men, Captain America, Finding Dory, and more all with free movie tickets. The secret to scoring free movie tickets is taking advantage of rebates!
Every time a new movie is released or right before it is released, certain companies will have special rebates or promotions where you buy their product and submit a rebate for a free movie ticket!
It is really easy to do, you just have to know where to look. If there is a certain movie coming out that I want to see, I do a simple Google search. I would enter something like: “Captain America movie rebate July 2016” The more specific, the better search results you will get.
This should bring up any special rebate deals you can score. If you don’t have a particular movie in mind, just search for “movie rebate July 2016” or whatever month or year you are in. This may bring up even more promotions.
Some rebates are for specific movies while others are for Movie Cash or Fandango credit. You can get an even better deal if you search for coupons or deals that you can use on the products that are required to purchase.
For example, there is a The Secret Life of Pets rebate available until August 15, 2016. You get a free Fandango child’s movie ticket ($9 value) when you purchase any combination of 3 participating Mott’s Juices and Applesauces in a single transaction. There is a great deal you can do at Target:
- Buy 3 Mott’s Apple juice 6 packs: $2 each
- Use a 5% off Cartwheel Offer (will deduct $.30)
- Pay $5,70 for 3 packs of juice and a movie ticket!
That is half of a regular movie ticket price for things you would probably buy anyway.
If you see a movie rebate promotion, just do a Google search for deals on that product for the week and you may be able to score an amazing deal just on the products alone, not to mention the free movie ticket.
Make sure you read the fine print on the rebates. Some have a limit on how many you can submit ( it’s usually 2 or more). Some specify a specific amount you have to spend and if that amount is calculated after or before coupons ( very important to know!).
I do like the fact that most of the rebates can be done online. You just snap a photo of your receipt and maybe enter the UPC codes of the product and you get your movie ticket emailed to you within a couple of days. Some do require mail-in rebates but, again, just make sure to read the fine print.
Another great deal I got was the Right Guard promotion for the new X-Men movie. You had to buy 3 Right Guard products and you got a free movie ticket. CVS had a great buy one get one free sale and there was a $2/2 printable coupon that I found on Coupons.com. Here is what I did:
- Bought 6 Right Guard Deodorants ($4.49 each): $13.47 after the sale
- Used 3 $2/2 coupons: $7.47
- Used $7 Extracare Buck that I had from my last shopping trip: $0.47 for 6 deodorants and 2 movie tickets!
Even if I didn’t have the Extracare Buck, it would have still been only $7.47 for all the deodorants and both movie tickets. My fiance and stepdad needed deodorant anyway so it won’t go to waste!
You just have to do a little searching for the rebates and deals but it will save you at least $18-$20 when you go out for a movie night.
Another way to get free movie tickets is to sign up with Gofobo. Sometimes they will have free movie screenings available that you can attend. You simply enter your zipcode and you can see if any screenings are available in your area.
This is a hit or miss kind of thing. I live in a large city so I have been to a few of these, they seem to have more screenings in larger cities. You get to see the movie before it is released. The only problem is that you have to get to the theater really early so that you can get a seat. They allow more people to sign up for a screening than they have seats available because some people won’t show up.
You can sign up for their email list so that you get notifications whenever there is a new screening. You have to sign up quickly for the screening because they only allow so many people to sign up.
I much prefer the rebates over Gofobo, but it is just another option that you can try if you don’t like dealing with rebates.
I hope this has given you some ideas on how you can go about getting free movie tickets. I know that summer is a great time to head out to a movie. If you want to see other ways I save, you can check out my other post below:
