My anniversary is coming up so I am getting everything ready that I will be needing for date night. Having a toddler, it just isn’t easy to have date nights as much as we used to so I try to make every one count. I have a great frugal beauty hack, DIY brown sugar lip scrub, that I like to use to keep my lips soft and kissable. I use this a lot now that it is getting colder and my lips tend to get chapped.
I love making this brown sugar lip scrub because it works really well, it only costs pennies to make, and it tastes yummy! I used this scrub about twice a week but I always make sure to use it when I am getting ready for date night. You only need 3 ingredients, the fourth is optional:
- coconut oil
- brown sugar
- vanilla extract (optional)
You will add a tablespoon of coconut oil, honey, and brown sugar to a bowl and mix it until it is all incorporated. I then like to add 1/8 tsp. of vanilla extract to make it smell and taste even better. You can add any flavor you want: almond, peppermint, etc. or you can just leave it out all together. It should look something like this:
I found a cute little glass container with a chalkboard lid for only $1 so I use that to store the brown sugar lip scrub. You can use any kind of small container. It is a great way to reuse any old glass makeup containers you have laying around. I keep this in the fridge to make it last a little longer.
You just apply the lip scrub and rub it on your lips for about 30 seconds. I then wipe it off with a warm cloth and apply some lip balm to lock in the moisture. It has helped keep my lips soft and smooth. I love this stuff!
That is just one of the things I do to get ready for date night but there are some date night essentials I have to have with me. I went to my local Walmart to stock up on the must haves. The first place I went to was the pharmacy section.
Ever since I was pregnant, I get terrible heartburn. I never had a problem with it before then. Before a big meal, I like to take an antacid to help prevent feeling miserable later on in the night. Nexium 24HR is what I keep in my purse because it is the #1 prescribed acid blocker brand (Based on IMS health data: total Nexium® prescriptions 2006 – 2014). May take 1 to 4 days for full effect. Use as directed.
I also like to keep some lipstick, a mirror, mints, and tissues in my bag. Since it is getting to be cold and flu season, I also like to keep some Emergen-C on hand. You never know when that sick feeling might hit so it is always good to be prepared. I love that Emergen-C comes in all kinds of yummy flavors. I personally like the strawberry-kiwi flavor. I was able to find these on an endcap near the pharmacy. With over 20 varieties of vitamin supplement drink mixes, Emergen-C offers the formula, flavor, fix, and FUN you’re looking for!
Another culprit of the cold weather, and just getting older, is that I get joint pain. I have had problems with my knee ever since I was a teen but it has gotten worse over the years. I like having some Advil Liqui-Gels on hand. It helps relive my joint pain as well as any headaches, that can happen with life with a toddler. This way if we want to go for a walk after having dinner, it won’t be a problem. I was able to find Advil Liqui-Gels near the pain revilers section.
I am able to fit all of these date night essentials into my adorable clutch. I like having a small bag to take on a date night. These are my must haves, along with my phone and wallet, of course. What are some of your date night must haves? Do you have any date night rituals? Don’t forget to try the DIY brown sugar lip scrub and let me know how it works for you.
