We live in a society that is less and less patient. We want instant gratification. When it comes to skin care products, it’s more of a marathon and less of a sprint. You may want to know just how long does it take for skin care products to work?
Have you tried a new skin care product or routine and didn’t see results? Don’t throw the products away just yet. You may not have given them enough time to actually work.
I wanted to give you a realistic time frame of when you should see results so you aren’t wasting your money by throwing perfectly good products away.
It’s not realistic to think that a product will erase years of skin damage in a couple of weeks. It’s important to give them time.
If you don’t see any improvement of your skin by the following time frames, then feel free to stop wasting your money on that product and try something new.

How Long Does it Take for Skin Care Products to Work?
Facial Cleansers
This is one product where you should feel a difference right away. You should be able to feel that your skin is hydrated and fresh the first time you use it.
If your skin feels dry after you wash your face, you need to get a new cleanser right away. The one you have is not hydrating enough for you.
Acne Cleansers
As with regular cleansers, you don’t want your face to feel dry. You should start seeing improvement to your skin within the first 1-2 weeks of daily usage.
It will take about 3 months to see the full results. If your skin still feels dry, ask your dermatologist if you should use the product every other day instead of every day. It will depend on what the active ingredients are in your acne cleanser.

Wrinkle Fighters
No matter how long you use a wrinkle fighter, you will never see a full reversal of wrinkles. You will, however, be able to see fine lines fill out and wrinkles soften.
If you are using a Retinol wrinkle fighter, you should be able to see full results in 4-6 months of daily use. You have to give it time to produce more collagen in the skin.
Retinol will give you long term results. Ingredients like hyaluronic acid will temporarily plump your skin but will take around 3 months to see results.
Spot Faders
Spot faders usually take around one month to see results. This is the time it takes for the surface cells of your skin to turn over and get rid of any pigment they may have in them.
Spot faders work by stopping new pigment from forming in your skin cells.
Anti-Acne Treatments
If you are using a spot treatment, you should see improvement overnight. The best way to fight acne is to use a product on your entire face, not just spot treatment.
When you use a product that has benzoyl peroxide, your acne should get better after a few days. Your skin will continue to improve over the next 3 months.
Remember, you should keep using your treatment even if your acne has disappeared to prevent pimples from coming back.
Moisturizers
You should feel a difference the first time you use a new moisturizer. Your skin should feel soft and hydrated. You won’t see any difference in your wrinkles, as moisturizers are more of a preventive measure against them.
I hope this gives you more of an idea about how long you should give your skin care products. If you don’t see results by this time frame, it may be a good idea to try something new.
Remember to take before and after pictures as some results may be subtle. It will be hard to notice the results when you look at your skin every day.
