I just completed another fitness program to add to my Beachbody Workout Reviews list. I just finished the program and wanted to write my 80 Day Obsession review so that you can see how effective it was for me and if this would be the right workout program to get the results you want.
I am going to give my honest take on this program, that includes both what I loved and hated about it.
If you have been following along with me on my fitness journey, you will know that this is the fifth Beachbody fitness program that I have done in a little over a year.
I didn’t have a lot of weight to lose this time, I just wanted a program that would give me a challenge and take my results to the next level which is why I chose 80 Day Obsession.

Is 80 Day Obssession for Beginners?
80 Day Obsession is an intermediate to advanced workout. It is taught by Autumn Calabrese who is the creator of the popular 21 Day Fix workout program. You can only access this workout if you have a Beachbody on Demand subscription, you can try it free for two weeks to see if you like it.
If you have done 21 Day Fix you will be a little familiar with some of the moves that are used in 80 Day Obsession. They are just more advanced.
There is a short program called A Little Obsessed that is also on Beachbody on Demand that is basically a condensed version of this program.
It is only 30 minutes a day for a week and it gives you a taste of what 80 Day Obsession is like. If this workout is too hard for you, you may not be ready for 80 Day Obsession.
If you haven’t worked out in a while, I would suggest starting with an easier workout program until you can get to that intermediate level. You can see the easier programs I’ve done Beachbody workout reviews on to find one to start out with.
I don’t want to say that you can’t do this workout if you are a beginner, there are modifications for each workout, but it is still a difficult workout program and I don’t want you to get discouraged and give up by started with a program that is meant to be a real challenge.
What Equipment do you Need for 80 Day Obsession?
You will need several pieces of equipment to complete this workout program. You will want to have the following on hand:
- A workout or yoga mat
- fitness sliders
- resistance bands
- a set of light, medium, and heavy weights
- 21 Day Fix nutrition containers ( you can find similar ones that are less expensive on Amazon.)
The weights will depend on your starting point. I personally used 8 lbs, 10 lbs, and 15 lbs. I could have gone a lot heavier as the program progressed but weights are expensive so I would just hold two 15 lbs. to make it 30 lbs.
Beachbody does sell the sliders and bands that the cast uses but I found a set that included both sliders and bands on Amazon for less than $15. They were great quality! They held up through the entire 80 days and I’m still using them.
An Honest 80 Day Obsession Review
I’m not going to lie, this fitness program kicked my butt! This was the challenge that my body needed and I saw some great results, which I will get into later.
How it’s filmed.
The workout is filmed live so you get to see Autumn and the rest of the cast as they struggle with the workouts just like I did.
The only thing that took some getting used to was how it was filmed live without any music, which is unlike any other workout program I have done.
At first I didn’t like that it did’t have music but it does come with a Spotify playlist that you can stream on your phone as you do the workout if you want to.
The only thing that annoyed me about it being filmed live was that they would act silly and start to giggle during some of the moves. It didn’t happen a whole lot, just sometimes. When I’m trying to focus on my form and count reps in my head, I found it to be distracting.
Other than that I liked how it was filmed and how they have the Weekly Obsession videos at the end of each week. You really got to know Autumn and the cast and see how they were struggling with the nutrition plan and some of the workout moves just like I was.
It was really neat to see their bodies changing and their results from completing this program as well. It was a big motivator.
The Workouts
There are 3 phases to 80 Day Obsession. Each month is a phase and then the last week is called Peak Week.
You work out 6 days a week and get one rest day where you can stretch or do some foam rolling to ease any soreness you may have…and you will get sore!
The workouts are about an hour long on average. I’m not used to doing such long workouts but after the first week, it really didn’t seem so bad.
Each day is a new exercise but they are categorized as follows:
- Cardio Core
- Total Body Core
- Booty
- Cardio Flow
- AAA
- Legs
You will do one workout from each category each week but the number of reps will change to keep your body from hitting a plateau until you move on to the next month where the workouts get harder.
The moves are challenging but there is always a modifier that you can do if you need to work up to the regular exercise.
Some of the moves I just couldn’t do, even with the modifier, because I have really bad knees. The Surrenders where one of these moves.
When it was time to do this move, I just did a weighted squat so that I could still work the muscle group in a way that wouldn’t injure myself.
If you have bad joints, just keep that in mind. I was able to finish this program but I made the adjustments where necessary to keep myself safe.
I love the fitness sliders! I have never used them before during a workout but they are an amazing way to work your core and your legs.
The Nutrition Plan
There is a Nutrition Plan involved with 80 Day Obsession. I want to be completely honest and tell you that I did not stick to this plan.
I personally, did not have a lot of weight to lose. I wanted to use this program to tighten and tone up from the weight that I had previously lost.
The nutrition plan is very strict and includes timed nutrition. If you have done the 21 Day Fix nutrition plan then this may not be a big adjustment for you.
It was just not something that I wanted to have to sit down and plan out every single week because it is seems very time consuming. Plus, I have a picky four year old that I would then have to make a separate meal for as well.
If you do want to lose weight then I highly suggest trying the nutrition plan so that you can see the maximum results that you can get from 80 Day Obsession.
I did try to eat healthy and in moderation during the program: cut out red meat, no sugary drinks, ate fruit, almonds, and plain popcorn for snacks, etc. But I didn’t follow the nutrition plan exactly.
There is a cooking show called Fixate that comes with your Beachbody on Demand subscription that shows you some great meals and snacks that you can make that are perfect for the 80 Day Obssession nutrition plan.
80 Day Obsession Results without the Meal Plan
I wanted to share my 80 Day Obsession review, results and before and after pictures so that you can see that you will still get results even if you don’t follow the meal plan.
My results are just from sticking to the workouts and eating healthy, just not super healthy. If you want to see maximum results, stick to the nutrition plan!
At the end of 80 Day Obsession, I noticed that my abs, arms, and thighs are much more toned. I can actually see my obliques! I never thought I would be able to see them again after have a baby!
Here are my measurements:
As you can see, my weight actually went up but that is due to the fact that I gained so much more muscle than I had to begin with!
My thigh muscle even got an inch bigger from when I first started and I can really tell the difference in how toned it is, no more jiggle thank you!
Not only do I have more muscle but my endurance has greatly improved. When I first did Cardio Flow, I thought I was seriously going to pass out. The last week of doing Cardio Flow, I only had to take a couple of breaks to catch my breath. That is a huge accomplishment for me!
I’m also so much stronger! My shoulders and triceps have so much more definition in them that I will gladly wear a tank top to show them off. I worked hard on those bad boys!
I hope that this 80 Day Obsession review has given you a better idea about how the program works and the results that you can see from it.
It really is a great program that will push you but you really do get out of it what you put into it. I know that if you stick with it, you will be so amazed with yourself at the end of those 80 days!
