Tips to Winter Proof Hair
Eliminate Static
There are several ways that you can get rid of static in your hair. If you are in a pinch, grab a dryer sheet and rub it over your hair. I like to always keep a few of these in my purse, just in case.
You can also take a cup of water and a few drops of essential oils and mix them in a spray bottle. Spritz your scarf and the inside of your hat to help prevent static. This will give your hair the moisture it needs.
You can also spray some Static Guard right onto your hairbrush and brush it through your hair.
Take Care of your Scalp
You scalp tends to get dry when the weather gets cold and this can lead to dandruff or a flaky scalp. Take care of your hair from the roots and use a dandruff shampoo twice a week. Let it sit for two minutes before rinsing.
Rotate between a dandruff shampoo like, Head and Shoulders Dry Scalp Care with Almond Oil Anti-Dandruff Shampoo and a moisturizing shampoo like, Garnier Whole Blends Hydrating shampoo.

Use a Hair Mask
Using a hair mask once a week will help add moisture and help prevent static and fly aways. An affordable option is the Garnier Sleek and Shine Moroccan Sleek Oil Treatment
Wash Sparingly
Washing your hair will strip it of the natural oils that protect your strands during the winter. An easy way to winter proof hair is to cut back on washing.
At the most, wash it every two days and make sure you turn down the temperature. Don’t use hot water, keep it warm while you shampoo to open up the cuticles.
Then at the end of your shower rinse with cold water for five seconds to seal the cuticles shut. This will help give you shinier hair.

Cut Back on the Heat
A great way to winter proof your hair is to cut back on the heat. Heat styling can be very damaging to your hair, especially in the winter when it needs all the moisture it can get. I have actually been using the Sleep Styler to get my hair curly and wavy every morning.
It does take some practice, but they really do work. I had to use the Sleep Styler about three times before I got the hang of it but it doesn’t damage my hair and it saves me so much time in the mornings!
Detangle
This isn’t exactly just for winter but it is good to know year round. When you try to detangle your hair when it is wet, it can damage your cuticles.
Remember to brush your hair before you shower to make brushing wet hair much easier.
By doing a few of these tips to winter proof hair, you should have smooth gorgeous locks this winter. If you use any other winter hair care methods to keep your hair flawless in the cold weather, let us know!
