For most of us a big bathroom renovation just isn’t in the budget. Thankfully, just by making some bathroom updates on a budget, you can entirely change the look of this room in only a weekend.
Not to mention, save a ton of money!

If you are renting or live in an apartment, you are pretty limited at how you can make the look of your home fit your personality.
Maybe you just moved into a new home and you don’t have the budget to get new flooring, a vanity, or counter tops. I’ve been there!
Start by using a few of my favorite bathroom updates on a budget to change the look of your bathroom!
Bathroom Updates on a Budget
New Mirrors
One of the first things I did when I moved into my house was change out my bathroom mirror. It was a boring large rectangular mirror. By switching out the mirror, it made the room look more sleek and modern for less than $75!
If you have a small bathroom, a good way to make it look larger is by hanging a frameless mirror. There are so many different shapes and designs to choose from to really fit your style.
The longer the mirror, the larger it will make the room feel.
Create a Focus Wall
If you don’t want to repaint the entire room, you can just try to create a focus wall. This is best for the wall behind the sink.
Prints are a great way to add some personality to a room. I personally like the peel and stick wallpaper because it is so easy to apply and comes in beautiful designs.
You can also use a fun stencil to create a unique design on the wall instead.

Create more Storage
Some older bathrooms will have a pedestal sink or have plumbing that is exposed. There is an easy way to fix this eyesore.
Make a sink curtain by simply hemming a piece of pretty fabric and attach it to the bottom of the sink using Velcro. Not only do you hide the plumbing but you can store toilet paper, cleaning supplies, or a toilet brush behind the curtain!
If you have a smaller bathroom, hanging floating shelves is a great way to create more storage for your bathroom essentials or to showcase some pretty decor.
Add Furniture
Yes, you can add furniture in your bathroom! Add some more color or a fun print with a cute upholstered accent chair.
Most “bathroom furniture” is narrow so if you want something with more surface space, bring in a side table that is the same depth of the sink.
Cheap Bathroom Upgrades
Update the Cabinets
A real easy way to update your cabinets is by simply painting them. If there is a lot of wear and tear, go for a darker color to hide the imperfections.
Darker paint looks great with both light and dark counters.
You can also get new knobs or handles to change the look of the cabinets without spending a lot of money. I think I spent less than $25 getting new handles for our bathroom and it really made a big difference!
Change the Look of Tile
Changing out the floors in the bathroom can get expensive. If you already have tile, you can simply update the look without having to actually remove the tile.
They make peel and stick tile flooring that is very easy to apply and stands up to the daily wear and tear that floors see.
They come in all sorts of pretty prints and colors so that you can get the look you have been wanting.
Decorating Ideas on a Budget
Find Affordable Decor
A big way to jazz up a boring bathroom, is by getting some pretty decor. The most affordable places I’ve found to get some new vases, wall decor, mirrors, and organizers are: At Home Stores, Hobby Lobby, and Home Goods.
You can also find some great deals online. My favorite online sites to shop are:
They are both daily deal sites so their inventory changes weekly. I love going to their Home Decor sections and seeing all of the fun stuff that they have, most of it is over 60% off!
Don’t Forget the Toilet
Don’t forget to take advantage of the space on the back of the toilet. It’s a great way to decorate and add some color. Just get a lucite tray to keep everything in place.
You can add a vase full of flowers, magazines, books, pretty candles, etc.
When I first moved into my house, these bathroom updates on a budget were just what I needed to really make my house feel like a home.
Maybe one day I will be able to do a bathroom renovation but that is way in the future. For now, these bathroom updates on a budget will do just fine!
