Summer-Proof your Skin Care Routine

June 7, 2017 by hewella1 Leave a Comment

I love the summer but it wrecks havoc on my skin! You may have had the perfect skin care routine for the winter months but now it is time to switch things up to summer-proof your skin care routine.

With the summer heat comes oily skin, humidity, and melting makeup. You need the right products to give you a glowing summer look without making you look like you just stepped out of a sauna.

This post contains affiliate links. If you make a purchase, I will earn a commission at no extra cost to you. I only recommend products that I have used myself.

I’ve done a previous post about how to keep your makeup from melting during the summer heat that you may want to check out after your read this.

This post strictly focuses on your skin care. It is so important to have a great skin care routine with the changing seasons. In the summer, skin becomes more oily and can lead to breakouts.

I have come up with a list of some of my favorite summer-proof skin care beauty products that work and are super affordable! You don’t need expensive products to get glowing, healthy summer skin.

Oil-free Face Cream

In the winter, you probably use a rich facial cream to keep your skin from being dry. For the summer, switch to a lighter oil-free facial cream to start your day. Look for one that has hyaluronic acid to help pull moisture from the air.

This will help keep your skin hydrated without having a heavy cream formula clogging up your pores, which can lead to breakouts.

Recommendation: Cetaphil Daily Hydrating Lotion

Facial Sunscreen

Sunscreen is so important! This is coming from a redhead, so I know what I’m talking about 😉 . Wear sunscreen every single day. No excuses.

They have some great formulas available for your face that are not greasy and are water-resistant. Look for a water-resistant formula so it doesn’t run down your face if you start to sweat.

I like getting a hydrating facial sunscreen so that I can skip my normal moisturizer that I would use in the winter. I need a product with high SPF for the summer months, even if I won’t be out in the sun all day.

Recommendation: Neutrogena Ultimate Sport Face Oil-Free Lotion Sunscreen

Micellar Water

Since you will probably be washing your face more often in the summer, you will need something that won’t strip your skin and cause it to become dry.

I like using Micellar Water because you can simply swipe it on with a cotton ball to remove dirt and oil without having to rinse it off. It will leave your skin clean and hydrated.

Recommendation: Garnier SkinActive Micellar Cleansing Water

Dry-Oil Body Spray

Another great way to summer-proof your skin care routine is to switch from a thick body lotion to a dry-oil body spray.

It will hydrate your skin without clogging pores and causing unwanted breakouts. Skip using it on your upper back and chest because they are susceptible to breakouts during the hotter months.

Recommendation: SheaMoisture Coconut & Hibiscus Dry Oil Moisturizer

Moisturizing Primer

Unless you have very dry skin, you may not even need to use a moisturizer during the summer. You can just apply a hydrating primer over your sunscreen.

I like using the primer from e.l.f. because it is super affordable and keeps my skin hydrated without being heavy and greasy. It makes my makeup stay put throughout the day.

Recommendation: E.l.f Hydrating Face Primer

Powder-based Foundation

It would be great if we could go makeup free in the summer but some of us still need a little help covering our imperfections.

Switch from a liquid foundation to a powder-based foundation to help prevent your makeup from melting and getting sticky, plus it could easily clog your pores.

Look for a product that says powder-finish which means it will go on like a liquid but dry to a matte finish.

Recommendation: L’Oreal Paris Magic Nude Liquid Powder

With these simple changes you can summer-proof your skin care routine and not have to worry about oily skin or clogged pores.

I love using all of these products and I hope you do to. If you use any other beauty products during the summer, let us know. I would love some new products to try!
