I work from home, have a three year old that stays with me all day, run all the errands, cook meals, clean the house, and take care of two dogs every single day. My life is busy!
Taking care of myself and being healthy took a back seat.
At the beginning of the year I made a commitment to myself that I would start taking better care of myself. I am happy to say that I am sticking with it and it is making my days more enjoyable and making me a better mom.
Use these tips so you can learn how to get healthy on any schedule. These are things that have been working for me. Everyone is going to be different but you can use these as a starting point and adjust them to fit your lifestyle.
Get Healthy When You’re Crazy Busy
Drink Water
This is probably the easiest thing you can do to get healthy but I still have a hard time with it. I just don’t like water! I have cut back on my sodas and sweet drinks to one a day or one every other day.
This has made a dramatic difference in my energy. To make myself drink more water, I like to add a little flavor to it. I’ll add some strawberries or citrus fruit to make it more enjoyable.
I really like the fruit infusion pitchers and water bottles so I always have some on hand.
Meal Plan
Meal planning is a great strategy to help you be healthier. It really doesn’t take that much time to do. I sit down and plan out a menu for the week and it probably takes me about 20 mins.
By meal planning you are able to have wholesome nutritious meals every single day. You don’t have to grab fast food on the way home because you don’t have time to go grocery shopping.
Just make a list for the week and go to the grocery store one time. I usually go on Fridays, that is just my grocery day, it works for my schedule.
If you don’t have time to sit down and make a list of meals, you can try out $5 meal plan. For just $5 a month, they do all of the meal planning for you and every meal is less than $5 per serving. This can save you so much money as well as time.
You can actually try it out for free for two weeks to see what the plans are like.
Get Healthy when You’re Short on Time
Skip the Gym
I know that some people love the gym but it just isn’t for me. I’m just too busy. By the time I get my workout clothes on, drive to the gym, and get prepared to workout, I could have already finished a workout at home!
I currently use Beachbody on Demand. I absolutely love it! There are so many different workout programs and it’s easy for me to switch it up when I get bored.
Plus, I get to workout at home when I have free time. That is usually during nap time or after my daughter goes to bed. You can try out Beachbody on Demand free for 30 days.
I am currently doing the Hip Hop Abs workout but they also offer the 10 Minute Trainer program. It’s a great workout program for people who don’t have a lot of time to devote to working out but still want to get a full body workout.
Healthy Food Delivered
You can still eat healthy even if you are short on time. There are so many healthy food options out there that you can get delivered straight to your door.
I like using Thrive Market. They deliver the world’s best healthy food and natural products to their members at wholesale prices.
You can save 25-50% off retail prices and you don’t even have to leave your house! They do have a yearly fee of $59.95 but you can try it free for 30 days to see if you like it.
Another good option to save you time and money on healthy food is Amazon Prime. They have pretty much every product you can think of and offer discounts to Prime members in the Prime Pantry section.
They have a yearly fee of $99.95 but also offer a 30 day trial.
Multi-task
I am a big TV fan. I know it is bad and a big time suck but I love it. I try to only watch one or two shows a day but that can add up.
If you are a TV nerd like me, make that the time you workout. Don’t just sit there watching the show, get on the treadmill or lift some weights while the show is on.
You can also do this if you have to take the kids to practice. Instead of sitting on the sidelines watching them play, walk around the field or court. You can still watch them but you are getting in your exercise, too!
Get Friends Involved
Friend time is a must. They can really be a breath of fresh air. Let them know that you are trying to be healthier and see if they want to get involved.
Instead of meeting for dinner or coffee, do something active. You can go for a walk or take a dance class. Check out Groupon for some great group activities. They have some amazing deals and it’s a great way to try out new things together.
Learn to Eat Better
Even if you can’t workout a lot, a simple way to get healthy is to change how you eat. It isn’t easy, I know!
My friend Becky has a course, Lose Weight, Gain Energy with Clean Eating, to help you lose 20 lbs. in just 6 weeks by teaching you how to change the way you eat.
She walks you through everything you need to know and gives you the tools you need to do it the right way.
It is a lifestyle change but it’s a great way to manage your health when you are short on time.
I hope these tips help you get started living a more healthy lifestyle and have given you some ideas on how to get healthy and fit.
