One of the hardest things about sticking to a workout or fitness routine is feeling burnt out or just plain lazy. I lack the workout motivation that I need. I have started doing a few workout motivation hacks to keep me pumped to exercise and keep me on the path to reach my health and fitness goals.
I hope these will work for you, too!

Get Paid to Workout
I know that being in good health should be the ultimate workout motivation for sticking to a fitness routine but for me, money is a big motivator. I don’t want to loose it and if I can actually make some money by sticking to my goals, that gives me even more incentive.
There are several ways to get paid to workout. You can make a bet among your friends or use apps that are available. Some of them even penalize you for not working out.
Just paying for a gym membership could give you the motivation you need. I hate wasting money so if I am going to pay for something, you can be sure that I am going to get my money’s worth. Knowing that you will be charged every month may be just what you need to go as much as you can.
Reward Yourself
I like giving myself a reward after I have achieved a small goal. My goal is usually sticking to my workout routine for a month. Your goal can be longer or shorter.
After a month, I will treat myself to a new workout outfit. I find that if I like my workout apparel, I want to wear it and will actually workout once I have it on. There are a lot of places where you can get great deals on workout apparel so you don’t spend a fortune each month.
Your reward may be different from mine. Maybe you want a smoothie after each workout or you get a manicure after sticking to a month of workouts. Whatever it is, make sure that it is something that you really want but won’t be able to have unless you reach your specific goal.
Workout as a Group
Working out as a group can be a lot of fun. You not only get physical benefits from your workout but you will also get the benefit of being social.
Get a few of your friends together and go for nightly walks. You can sign up for some gym classes together or do at home workouts as a group.
They can keep you accountable and it makes it harder to skip out on your fitness routine.
If you don’t live close enough to your friends to do that, just join a fitness class instead of working out alone at the gym. Being around others will keep you energized and you will want to keep up with the rest of the class.
Audiobooks & TV
Netflix is a huge problem for my workouts. I get hooked on a show and I can’t stop watching it so I will skip out on my exercise.
Make a deal with yourself that you will only watch that show when you are working out. If you have a treadmill at home, get on it and watch your show while you are working out. You can only watch the next episode if you keep going. Once you are done working out, you are done watching the show for the day.
I know not everyone has a treadmill so this can also be done with audiobooks as well. If you want to find out what happens next, you have to go on your run, walk, or other workout to find out.
If you are looking for some good audibooks, check out Audible. You can get a free 30 day trail and get 2 free audibooks to keep, even if you cancel!
Do an Exercise you Actually Enjoy
No one wants to do a boring workout over and over again. Find one that you actually enjoy! Play a sport, do a rock climbing class, kickboxing class, dance class, etc.
Getting in shape doesn’t mean working out on gym equipment. You can do an activity that doesn’t feel like working out. You will actually look forward to it and not have to get yourself motivated.
I like finding deals on Groupon to try new activities that I think I would enjoy. It’s a great way to try new things without spending a ton of money. Stick with what works and if it doesn’t, try something else. Check under their “Health and Fitness” and “Things to Do” tab to get some ideas.
Variety also helps keep me motivated. I hate sticking to the same workout program month after month. I get bored with it. I actually use Beachbody on Demand to switch things up while still saving money.
I get to stream full workout programs like Insanity, 10 Minute Trainer, Hip Hop Abs, Turbo Fire, and over 400 other workouts.
You can get a free 30 day trial to see what they have to offer and if it is something that can keep you motivated. I like that you can stream them from anywhere and you don’t have to keep up with any DVDs.
