I know that we all want to do our best to save the environment and make it a healthier place for our kids. Sometimes it can seem like there isn’t anything we can do to make a big impact. That isn’t true! You can help save the environment by making smarter purchases on your next shopping trip. The little changes you make add up to making a big difference.
Bring your Own Bags
We all know that we should be doing this but how many of us actually bring our own bags when we go shopping. I like keeping a couple of reusable totes in my car at all times. That way I don’t have to worry about remembering to grab them every time I head out the door.
If you forget to bring a reusable bag, opt for paper over plastic. They are easier to recycle.
Buy Unwrapped Produce
Don’t buy the fresh produce that has been pre-chopped, pre-washed, or wrapped in packaging. This will help cut down on so much waste going to the landfills. Most of them are wrapped in plastic or foam boards that can’t be recycled. Plus, it is usually cheaper to purchase fresh produce that you can chop and wash yourself.
Buy in Bulk
Opting for the largest package size is usually a better option. You can help cut down on packaging as well as transportation costs. It is also normally cheaper per ounce, saving you money.
Stay Away from Individually Wrapped Products
Not only do individually wrapped products lead to more waste, they are usually more expensive. You are paying for that extra packaging. Instead of buying individual bags of chips or cookies for your kids lunches, buy a big bag and pack the food in reusable snack bags.
Instead of buying juice boxes, buy a large bottle of juice and pour it in a thermos. It doesn’t take a lot of extra time, you are just paying for convenience. Save your money by taking an extra minute to package things yourself.
Look for Items that are Made with Renewable Energy
You can find products made from the brands you love but are better for the environment and your family. Tide Purclean is the first bio-based detergent (65%bio-based) with the trusted cleaning power of Tide. I am so glad a brand that I love and use regularly now has a more environmentally friendly option.
Tide Purclean is made at a zero manufacturing waste to landfill site with 100% renewable electricity. It is certified by the USDA BioPreferred Program. But it still has the stain fighting power that you love.
I went to buy some at my local Target. They have a 10% Cartwheel offer that you can use through July 2nd. Be sure to keep an eye out for a neckhanger coupon for $1 off, too! I didn’t find any at my local Target but maybe you will have better luck. I spotted the new Tide Purclean on an endcap instead of in the laundry aisle.
I have been using the Tide Purclean for a couple of weeks now and I love it! The honey lavender scent is amazing and my clothes smell so fresh and clean.
I know that my clothes are still getting the stain fighting power they need but I am having a much less impact on the environment.
I know that making your own laundry detergent and cleaning supplies is an option but if you prefer to buy your cleaning products, this is a great one to get. The planet will thank you!
