It seems like our kids already have so many toys. I actually don’t mind my daughter having them as long as she plays with them and they help her learn or grow her imagination. I always try to get her toys that will spark her imagination. I really prefer them not to have batteries or chargers! If you are looking for a gift idea or just want to help your child with their skills, here is a list of toys to spark your child’s imagination.
I’ve included affiliate links to help make your shopping easier.
I always think that LEGOs are a great toy for kids to have. They are so versatile and they can use them to make anything they want. There are themes for every interest: Harry Potter, Star Wars, LEGO Friends, Marvel, etc. This is a toy that both boys and girls love to play with.
Kiwi Crate is a great option for kids that like to do crafts and make projects. They have subscriptions for kids ages 3 all the way up to 16+. Every month a new theme, with all the materials and inspiration for kids to build, make, and develop their creative confidence. You can check out the site to see some of the past crates to make sure it’s something your child would like.
My daughter loves her Dress Up clothes. I like stocking up on them during the after Halloween sales to really save. Her favorite is her Sofia the First dress. It’s so fun to see her imagination work as she pretends to be a princess just like Sofia.
Hand Puppets are so much fun! You can put on little shows together or act out some of their favorite stories. You can buy puppets, they have some really cute ones, or you can make your own out of paper bags or old socks.
I know this isn’t technically a toy but my daughter loves it and I have seen her mind blossom because of this. ABCmouse.com is a great gift for your child. It will help them prepare for school and teach them how to use their imaginations to the fullest. My daughter loves playing the games and reading all the stories. She is learning so much! You can get a free trial for 30 days to see if it is something that you child will enjoy as well.
We got my little girl a play kitchen for Christmas last year and she loves it. She will take her play food and pretend to cook a meal for me. It’s so cute! They have so many options for play food now: pancake sets, fruit and veggie sets, pizza maker, etc. It’s cute seeing her pretend to be like mommy in the kitchen…at least she doesn’t pretend to burn stuff yet 🙂 .
Art easels are great to get a kid’s creativity flowing. I really like the 3 -in -1 easels because they can paint, do chalk, or just draw. Whatever they want to do.
One of my favorite toys growing up was my Barbie Dream House. I think I played with that all the time. Doll houses are great to get kids imaginations going. They love it when you play with them and it’s a great bonding experience.
Puzzles are great for imaginations as well as fine motor skills. I love the personalized puzzles from ISeeMe. They have some for both boys and girls and they can have a puzzle that is just for them. They make fantastic quiet time activities.
I got so much use out of my play house when I was a child. I remember the neighbor kids would come over and we would play all sorts of games in the house. We would pretend to be super heroes and rescue each other from the house, we would play cowboys and cowgirls, and so many other things. The options where endless. They have so many varieties of play houses now it is crazy!
If your child likes performing or is into magic, get them a Magic Kit. There are so many fun ones available and they can put on a show for the whole family. You could make it a big deal and have snacks and popcorn like a movie night. They will love being the star of the show!
If your child likes to build things, a great toy is the Magnetic Stick N Stack. It is a #1 best seller on Amazon and they are only limited by their imagination. There are so many things they could build over and over again. Plus, they are compatible with other brands!
Playing any kind of super market or shopping game is really great for a child’s imagination. I like this cash register from Learning Resources. It also helps with their math and fine motor skills.
I loved my microscope kit that I had as a kid. I eventually got my degree in Biology, I was a science nerd. If only they had the science kits then that they have now. I would have spent all my allowance on them. Barnes and Noble has a lot of amazing sets, including this CSI one!
These Imagination Patterns are really neat. Kids can create all kinds of shapes and creatures on this magnetic board. This would be amazing for car trips! Plus, everything can be stored in the case for easy clean up.
They make dress up sets for both boys and girls now. It used to be just dolls for girls. I like that they have the magnetic sets now so you can use them over and over again. This is perfect for a little future fashion designer. You can make all kinds of different outfit combinations.
It seems like every kid I know loves trains. Especially, Thomas the Tank Engine. Train sets are a great way to get kids to build and use their imaginations. You don’t have to get a huge expensive set. There are so many options and some are less than $30!
I love the varieties of play mats that are available now. I’ve seen cities, towns, Paw Patrol, Elmo, Peppa Pig, Little People, etc. They have them for both boys and girls. It makes a great addition to a play room and kids get so much use out of them. They can play with all their toys on it, not just cars and trucks.
I know that there are a lot more great toys for your child’s imagination out there but these are my favorites. They are ones that I used to play with and loved or that my own daughter now plays with. If I am going to buy toys, I want to make sure they are helping her mind and imagination to grow.
