There are so many great things we can do to make the earth a better place. You can make some Earth Day resolutions that make a big difference to the environment. Earth Day is April 22nd so grab the family and make a few simple changes to really make an impact for a better planet.
Don’t buy anything with microbeads. They are found in body washes or facial scrubs and are supposed to be used as exfoliants. When they get into the water supply, they are difficult to breakdown and filter so they pollute our rivers and oceans. There are even some states that are considering banning these in products.
Start your own garden. This is something that the whole family can do together and it is so much fun! You can start by growing flowers or herbs to see how you like it since they are the easiest to grow. I like growing a vegetable garden every year so that we can save money on our grocery bill and get the freshest produce possible. I’m currently growing strawberries, blueberries, peppers, tomatoes, and zucchini. Growing your own food cuts down on CO2 emissions from transporting the produce.
Put something heavy in your toilet tank. You can use a brick or a bottle of water. This will help displace the water in the tank so you don’t use as much every time you flush.
Stop using plastic bags. It is so easy to take reusable tote bags with you every time you go shopping. Have two sets so that one is always in the car. Plastic bags end up in the oceans every year and contribute to so much marine life deaths. They are a big problem with sea turtles. I like the Grab Bag shopping bags because they fit right inside of your shopping cart.
Buy recycled paper products. I know that it can be difficult to cut out paper plates, towels, napkins, etc. I try to cut back on my usage and I try to buy products that are made out of recycled paper so I’m not contributing to more deforestation.
Recycle as much as you can. I try to recycle everything that I possibly can. I have been doing this ever since I was a little girl and I am teaching my daughter the importance of recycling. I know that we recycle at least half of our trash if not more. This makes a huge impact! I love that our city makes it so much easier to recycle by giving us one trash bin for regular trash and one for recycling and they come and take it away.
Buy natural products. Buying products that are more natural and free of chemicals is not only good for your body and health but good for the environment as well. I have made a switch to some more natural products from the Tom’s of Maine’s new Made to Matter collection.
All of the products in the Made to Matter collection are free of artificial dyes, fragrances, flavors and preservatives, and are never tested on animals which is a big plus in my book! These products are only available at Target and you all know how much I love my Target.
When I shopped, all of the products were on a special promotion and I was even able to use a cartwheel offer to save even more on my purchase of the Made to Matter products. You can get the Luminous White Toothpaste, Wicked Cool!Deodorant, and North Woods Antiperspirant.
I bought 2 of the 3 products since the Wicked Cool! deodorant is made for kids and mine isn’t old enough to use it yet. I am so happy to try the Luminous White toothpaste they have because it’s a whitening toothpaste that is free of gluten and parabens. Not to mention it is safe on your enamel. I am interested to see what kind of results I get after using this new toothpaste.
I bought my fiancè the new North Woods Men’s Antiperspirant. He seems to like it. It provides all day odor and wetness protection without petrochemicals, artificial fragrances, or irritation. I like that it is simple and more natural than any other antiperspirant I have seen.
Just by making these simple Earth Day resolutions, you will be helping not only the earth, but your family’s future as well. Keep your family and planet happy and healthy.
What are some things you plan on doing for Earth Day?
