I love the spring weather but I hate spring cleaning! There are a few ways I make spring cleaning fun and more tolerable to get me through it. I love getting the whole family involved, doing some quick and easy hacks, and making games out of everything. It has to get done so we might as well have fun with it!
I have partnered with Kimberly-Clark and The Motherhood to bring you some of the ways I make spring cleaning fun for everyone involved. I won’t lie, I do most of the spring cleaning myself, my daughter isn’t quite old enough to do much help but she likes to think that she does.
Shopping Prep: You will want to have everything you need on hand. It is no fun when you are ready to get the ball rolling and you realize you don’t have all of the cleaning supplies that you need. Plus, it is just fun to go out and try some of the new products you find.
I went to my local Walmart to stock up on everything that I needed. I stocked up on Viva® Big Roll Paper Towels, Cottonelle® Toilet Paper Double Rolls, Scott® 1000 Bathroom Tissue, spray bottles, scrubby brushes, etc. I like buying these products at Walmart because the prices are great and I can stock up at a low price.
I even found a cute little dust pan for my daughter to use to “help” me. She was so excited. I don’t think she gets this excited about her regular toys, go figure!
Get the Family Involved: I like when you can get the whole family involved in cleaning because it just gets done so much faster. You can make up fun games to really motivate them. See who can finish their task first. Have a vacuum or sweeping race. See who can find the most lost items under the couch or in the closets.
I let my daughter go crazy with her new dust pan. She swept everything she could find. It kept her busy so that I could focus on getting more stuff done.
Break out the Jams: Music just makes everything better. I like listening to some pop music or fun 80’s songs while I am cleaning. Don’t be surprised if you find me singing Britney or Mariah at the top of my lungs while I’m sweeping.
This is also a great time to listen to any audiobooks or podcasts that you have been meaning to listen to. A great way to multitask! I like to listen to some blogging podcasts to keep updated on the latest advice too.
New Organization: I love getting new organization containers, especially the pretty patterned ones. Thay just add a nice pop of color to any room and they keep you organized! I like getting a few new ones around this time of year, it is just a little motivator for me to get everything together.
I also take this time to go through my daughter’s clothes and figure out what still fits and what doesn’t. I sit with her while I do it and I ask her if she remembers doing things in that outfit like, “Do you remember when we went to the pumpkin patch? You were wearing this shirt?” It’s just a fun way tor reminisce while doing a chore.
Get Products that Work: Nothing will spoil your spring cleaning fun like cleaning products that don’t do what they promise. I like using the Kimberly-Clark products because they really go a long way. The Viva Vantage paper towels are great for scrubbing and cleaning stainless steel appliances and any outdoor furniture. They have a scrubby texture that really picks up the messes.
I also stock up on toilet paper because we all need it! I use the Cottonelle brand because it has CleanRipple texture. It just gives you a better clean.
Rewards: This is probably the most fun part of spring cleaning. I like to give myself a reward when I have finished all of my tasks on my to do list. It may take me a week or so to get everything done. Once I am done, I will get myself a new purse or get myself a manicure. Just something to treat myself. That and a clean house is a great reward.
Do you do anything special to make spring cleaning fun? How do you motivate yourself to get everything done?
