Winter Skincare Tips for Toddlers: Protect their Sensitive Skin

February 18, 2016 by hewella1 Leave a Comment

You can use these winter skincare tips for toddlers and babies so they will stay happy and comfortable. The winter can be so harsh on our skin but even more so to babies and toddlers.

There is less moisture in the air so their skin gets dry and itchy which can even turn into a rash.

Winter Skincare Tips for Toddlers

Dress in layers: Dress your toddler like an onion…layers, layers, layers. If they get too hot you can easily remove jackets and sweaters. They can get a heat rash if they get too hot.

I always keep a pair of mittens and a hat in my diaper bag for when it gets really cold out. Don’t bundle them up when they are in the car, they won’t fit as securely in their car seats. I like using a blanket so that she can take it off once she starts getting hot.

Chapped Lips: Little ones are more prone to chapped lips because of runny noses or drooling. You can use some petroleum jelly or baby lip balm to help prevent this. Make sure to put some on before you head outside, especially if it is windy.

Use a humidifier: It is a good idea to use a humidifier in their room at night. Moisture in the air decreases during the winter months so this helps add moisture to the air and to your child’s skin.

More Winter Skincare Tips

Sunscreen: The best winter skincare tip for toddlers is to put sunscreen on your baby even during the winter because they can still get sunburned. Snow can reflect the sun’s rays by 80%.

Make sure to always use a sunscreen formulated for babies whenever you go outside. Get their face, nose, and ears.

Eczema: Eczema tends to flare up in the winter. If your child is prone to this, the best course of action is to moisturize.

You can give them a lukewarm bath every night and always put an unscented lotion on them afterwards. Don’t use soap, as that can dry out the skin even more. Use a gentle cleanser instead.

Bath Time: Give them short, lukewarm baths at night. The longer the bath, the more their skin can dry out. I don’t like using a soap on my daughter’s skin.

Instead, I have been using the Dove Sensitive Skin Beauty Bar because it is more gentle and milder than soap. It helps keep her skin feeling soft and baby smooth.

I was drawn to the Dove Sensitive Skin Beauty Bar because it is the #1 Dermatologist and Pediatrician recommended bar so I feel confident using it on my daughter. It’s dye-free so it is gentle enough to use for infants and toddlers with eczema. It can be used on children as young as 2 months old.

I don’t like using soap on either my skin or my daughter’s. It is just too harsh and strips the skin of essential oils and nutrients.

I have noticed a difference in both of our skin after using the Dove Sensitive Skin Beauty Bar. If it is good enough for a baby’s skin, it is good enough for mine.

Use these winter skincare tips for toddlers and babies to find new products and create a new skincare routine to protect them from the cold weather.

After Bath: I like using an unscented lotion that is formulated for babies. I rub it all over her when she is still a little damp. I dress her in loose fitting pajamas so that her skin can easily breathe.

I have been using these winter skincare tips for toddlers since mine was a baby. We have been lucky and haven’t had many rashes or burns. What are some winter skincare tips for toddlers you do to take care of your child’s skin during the winter?
