I have so many fond memories of past Christmases. My Mom always made sure to make the season magical and wonderful for my brother and I as kids. One of our family traditions was to always have Sausage Casserole for breakfast every Christmas morning. It was a special treat that she only made once a year. I would love to share the recipe so that you can make it for your family.

sausage casserole

This is one of my favorite recipes just because of the memories that are associated with it. It is really good and makes for a nice brunch. You can make it the night before and refrigerate it overnight. This makes for a very easy Christmas morning breakfast. Just pop the sausage casserole in the oven while everyone starts opening gifts. You can even freeze this ahead of time if you want.

Ingredients:

  • box of plain croutons
  • 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese
  • 2 lbs. roll sausage ( I use regular Jimmy Dean sausage)
  • 4 eggs
  • 3/4 tsp. Dry mustard
  • 3 cups of milk
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup

Directions:

  1. Brown sausage and drain well on a paper towel
  2. Place croutons on bottom of greased 9 x 13 casserole dish. It is difficult for me to find plain croutons at the store so I just make my own. I use this recipe and it is so easy.
  3. Top with cheese
  4. Place sausage on top of cheese.
  5. Mix eggs, dry mustard, 2 1/2 cups of milk and pour over the top of the casserole.
  6. Refrigerate overnight, covered. It can also be frozen for future use.
  7. Day of Use: combine cream of mushroom soup with 1/2 cup of milk and pour over the top of casserole. Bake at 300 degrees uncovered for 1 1/2 hours.

This sausage casserole recipe is so good and comforting on Christmas morning. I was inspired to make it myself when I saw the new Hallmark cards at my local Walmart. They had the sweetest holiday card for moms and it made me think of all of the wonderful traditions my mom started for us. I now get to pass on all of these traditions to my own baby girl!

Hallmark cards

I found the Hallmark cards near the Christmas section and not near the other greeting cards. They had all kinds of beautiful cards for everyone on your list. I especially love sending holiday cards to family and friends that live far away. It lets them know that I am thinking about them this season. The great thing about Hallmark cards is that they are perfect for any occasion or season.

I bought two of the Hallmark cards to send out this year. I found the beautiful one for my Mom. The colors are gorgeous and perfect for the holidays. I love that it has a little sparkle to it. The card is so heartfelt and says exactly what I couldn’t find the words to say. I also found an adorable Frosty the Snowman card! Frosty is a big tradition for many families. I loved watching him every year growing up. Thumpty-thump-thump! I bought both of them using a coupon, of course. Click here to save $1.00 off of a two Hallmark Greeting Card purchase at Walmart, minimum $1.00 purchase required. Take advantage of the savings and #SendHallmark this holiday season!

Hallmark cards

While I was looking at cards, I also saw the cute Hallmark Ornaments that are available at Walmart. They had everything from Star Wars to Barbie to Disney. I wanted to get my daughter an Elmo ornament this year because she loves him so much and they had one! So I bought it for her to hang on the tree. They are very affordable, too!

Hallmark ornaments

I love how Hallmark has become a part of my family’s holiday traditions. We always choose a new ornament for the tree every year and it is almost always a Hallmark ornament. We also listen to the Hallmark station on Pandora while we decorate our tree.

I love sharing my traditions with you and I would love to hear all about yours. Do you get new ornaments every year or make a special recipe, like my sausage casserole? Let me know in the comments. I hope you all have a very happy holidays!

I think having a special breakfast on Christmas morning is such a nice tradition! We have sausage pinwheels each year and everyone looks forward to them. Your recipe sounds super good! We’ll have to try it! I bet your daughter loves having that Elmo ornament on the tree. He’s the cutest!
