I love the holidays! I am so excited that I get to share all of my family traditions with my daughter, as well as making a few new ones of our own. I think that every Christmas I will get her to make a new ornament for the tree. This year I decided to make a handprint reindeer ornament since her hands are still so cute and small.
I did learn a few things making this craft, if your kids are younger than 3, you may just want to trace their hand like I did. The plan was to have her hand covered in paint and just use her handprint, but she did not want to spread her fingers out so it ended up looking like a big blob.
After I used some Huggies Clutch ‘n Clean baby wipes to get all of the paint off of her hands, I decided just to trace her hand using a pen. Regardless of which method you use, here are the supplies you will need:
- ornament
- brown Sharpie
- brown acrylic paint
- ribbon
- scissors
- craft foam brush
- red gem or pom pom for the reindeer’s nose
- super glue
Trace your child’s hand on the ornament using a pencil or pen. I went over it with a brown Sharpie so that I could see it better for the next step.
Using the acrylic paint and foam brush, paint in the shape of the hand. I used some Huggies baby wipes to clean up around the edges. They worked great for this!
Next, draw some antlers and a face for your reindeer using the brown Sharpie. I also drew on some hooves and a tail.
Take the red gem ( or pom pom if you are using those) and glue it on for his nose. You can use hot glue if you want but I just used good old super glue.
Write your child’s name and the date on the back of the ornament so you will always remember when you made it together.
For the final touch, I found some cute snowflake ribbon at the craft store. I just tied it around the top of the ornament. That’s it!
This is a really cute and easy craft for you to make with the kids (as long as they will corporate :)). Ours didn’t turn out perfect but it is still really cute! I love that everything was really easy to clean up. I was surprised at how well the Huggies wipes cleaned up the paint. They aren’t just for baby’s bums!
I got some of the Huggies Clutch ‘n Clean wipes at my local CVS, #CVSHuggiesHeroes . They are located in the baby aisle. I have been a big fan of Huggies products since my daughter was born and these are no exception. Huggies are the #1 branded choice of Moms. I love the cute packaging and that they are refillable. You can clip them to the side of your diaper bag or stroller for easy access.
These are also great to have on hand in the car. Just hook them around the side console, and you can get to them easily and quickly. That is very important with a baby or toddler in the car. They can make all kinds of messes in the blink of an eye! I will have these in the car and in the diaper bag for our road trip to Grandma’s this Christmas. I know they will come in handy!
Not only are Huggies Clutch ‘n Clean wipes good for diaper changes but also for doing cute crafts with the kids! I really enjoyed making this handprint reindeer ornament for Christmas this year. I can’t wait to see what we will be making next year. What fun holiday traditions do you have with your kids?
