With the holidays right around the corner, I thought it would be a good time to share some saving tips for Toys R’ Us and Babies R’ Us. I know a lot of you will be shopping at these stores during the holiday season, I know I will. There are some great programs to take advantage of and policies to be aware of that can help you save as much as possible.
Rewards R Us
If you will be shopping at either of these stores, you need to sign up for the Rewards R Us loyalty program. You will earn $5 for every $125 that you spend. It is free to sign up, you can do it in-store or online. Your purchases do add up so it is nice to get a little reward every now and again. I usually use them to buy my daughter a new shirt or some Plum Organic pouches.
Earn Money From your Registry
When you make a baby registry with Babies R’ Us, you can earn up to 10% back on all of your registry purchases. You do have to be a Rewards R Us member. Put EVERYTHING on your registry, even things you will be purchasing yourself. Check your email approximately 12 weeks after your baby’s expected arrival date for your total earnings. There are no exclusions to what you can buy! You can use this money to purchase items you didn’t get or just to get more diapers. You will always need those!
Store Credit Card
I am not a fan of store credit cards because they usually have high interest rates, but if you pay off your balance every month and will be doing a lot of shopping at Toys R’ Us, it might be worth it. You can sign up for the R’ Us credit card and you will earn 2x the points for every dollar you spend. So you will get your $5 rewards after spending $62.50. You will also get 15% off your first purchase after approval and 10% off your in-store purchase every Thursday.
Price Match
This may come in handy around the holiday season when those popular toys get harder to find. Toys R’ Us usually has the most stock in toys compared to other retailers but they may not have the best price. Just bring in the weekly ad from the competitor’s store or show them the online price and Toys R’ Us will match it. They will only price match up to two off the same item.
They will match prices from selected online competitor websites, including Walmart.com, Target.com, BestBuy.com, Sears.com, Kmart.com, buybuyBaby.com, Meijer.com, FredMeyer.com, diapers.com, BabyDepot.com, LEGO.com and Amazon.com (not including marketplace pricing). You can read the full price match policy here.
Coupons
Toys R’ Us and Babies R’ Us both accept manufacturer coupons. They also have a Coupon Center that will occasionally have several store coupons posted. They have had some great ones in the past. Last year they had a free pack of diapers with a $25 purchase and free Dr. Brown’s holiday bottles with a $15 purchase.
Store Catalog and Mail Inserts
I get a store ad every month in my mailbox. It is usually filled with some pretty decent coupons and there is always a coupon on the front for 15% off a regular price item or 20% off if you are a R’ Us credit card holder. I also just got the 2015 Christmas catalog and it had a coupon for a $10 gift card when you spend $75 or more. I think I get these because I am a Rewards R’ Us member. If you didn’t get the catalog, ask if they have some in-store.
Clearance
Both of these stores have some great seasonal clearance deals, especially after Christmas and back-to-school. I saw some backpacks for as low as $4! It is not even Halloween yet and they have already marked down costumes to 75% off. They even had a great deal where candy was 50% off!
I have scored some great deals on baby clothes at Babies R’ Us. They had an event one time where you could take an additional 40% off the clearance price. Needless to say, I stocked up!
Free Events
This won’t save you money but I do love the free events that they have. I have taken my daughter to the Babies R’ Us Baby’s 1st Christmas and 1st Halloween. They got to make a cute little craft and there were even some door prizes! We won a Little Remedies gift set at one event and a subscription to Hello! magazine at another. It was great to get out and let her see other kids and for me to be around other moms.
I am planning on taking her to the Toys R’ Us Halloween event this year. You can also sign your child up for Geoffrey’s Birthday Club. It is free and your child will receive a special birthday card and a gift from Geoffrey every year until he or she is 10. You can also come into the store on, or near, your child‘s birthday for some extra-special attention, including a birthday crown, Geoffrey balloon and a personalized announcement broadcast to the entire store!
These are just some of the saving tips for Toys R’ Us and Babies R’ Us that I use regularly. I hope they help you save on your shopping this holiday season and throughout the year. What are some saving strategies that you use?
