I love the warmer months because that means I get to spend more time outside! I came up with some ways to decorate your patio on a budget because mine was looking a little sad. It was in some major need of being spruced up.
I love sitting on my patio or deck and reading a book or just relaxing with a glass of tea.
I wanted to make my patio and outdoor living space look cute without spending a lot of money. Here is how I was able to decorate my patio on a dime.

Decorate your Patio on a Budget
Secondhand Furniture
You probably know that you can buy secondhand outdoor furniture to save a lot of money. I like to search places like flea markets, Goodwill, and other thrift stores for some great deals. You can usually find some great bargains on Craigslist, too.
Start looking at the beginning of the season, this is when people are buying new furniture for themselves so they need to get rid of the old set quickly. Most of the time it will just need a good washing or paint job.
We actually found a wooden patio set at Goodwill that had 4 chairs and 2 little tables. They weren’t in great condition but they only needed to be stained.
The set only cost us $25 and we then saw the exact set selling at Target. Just one chair was $50! We really scored on that deal!

Decorate your patio on a budget with frugal lighting
I like when people have lights mounted around the patio or deck. It just gives it a nice ambiance at night. You can use Christmas string lights to get a pretty effect.
Just use what is already in your attic or stock up right after Christmas to use them in the spring and summer. I also love using little candle lanterns to sit on the side tables. I got a cute pair from Ikea and they were only $4 each!
Another great site to check is Jane. They have new inventory all the time so you can find some great outdoor items, just look under the Home Decor section.
Cheap Patio Decorating Ideas
My favorite place to shop for cheap patio decorating ideas and outdoor decor is Hobby Lobby or At Home Stores. They have some of the cutest wooden signs and accents to use outside on your patio or porch.
Other craft stores like Michael’s, AC Moore, and Jo Ann’s have some great items that don’t cost a lot either.
Some other sites you might want to try for great outdoor decor deals are:
Cushions and Outdoor Rugs
The best time to buy cushions and outdoor rugs is at the end of the season when everything is on clearance for 50% off or more. You can usually get some really good deals at Target or Lowe’s to use next season.
If you need them right now, your best bet is to check out places like TJ Maxx, Home Goods, Old Time Pottery, At Home, etc.
Live Plants
There is nothing better then having live plants on your patio. They just bring so much color and life to the space. You can usually get a couple flowers or plants for less then $10.
You can even save on the vase by getting a plain looking one at a dollar store and decorating it yourself if you are crafty.
Keep out the Bugs
I hate bugs! I am very lucky that I have a screened in patio. If you don’t, you can always use citronella candles or tiki torches.
They also make really neat bug screens so you can enjoy being outside without all of the pests. Some of them are really affordable too at under $30!
