As someone who is very pale, I know a thing or two about how to protect your face from the sun. When I was around 10, I was told by a doctor that if I wore sunscreen and stayed out of the sun that I would look a lot younger then my age. At the time I didn’t really want to look younger but now, at the age of 31, I am so glad that I listened to that doctor. Just the other day I was told how young I look for my age. I know that it was due to protecting myself from the sun’s rays. Here are my best tips to protect your face from the sun and prevent damage and wrinkles.
Stay inside during peak hours
If it is possible, you want to stay out of the sun during the hours of 10:00 am – 4:00 pm. This is when the sun’s rays are the strongest. Go for a run or go swimming before or after these hours for the best protection.
Sunscreen
This is a given but wear sunscreen EVERY SINGLE DAY! Not just when it is sunny and warm outside. The UV rays penetrate through the clouds and reflect off surfaces. Wear a sunscreen that is at least SPF 30 and reapply every 2 hours. You want to use about a tablespoon of sunscreen just for your face. Make sure you have a nice thick coating to get the full benefits.
Wear a Hat
This doesn’t have to be a boring straw or baseball hat. There are so many cute hats that can really make your outfit chic. You want one with a wide brim to cover your full face and nose. One made out of canvas or a tight woven material is preferable. A lot of people forget about putting sunscreen on their part and hair line so wearing a hat protects these areas as well.
Don’t Forget your Lips
Your lips are the most sensitive skin on your face so don’t forget to protect them as well. Use a good chapstick that has an SPF of at least 15. I like the Hawaiian Tropic Tropical Lip Balm SPF 45+. Make sure you apply it frequently throughout the day.
Sunscreen with Benefits
If I am not going to be outside a lot, I will wear a moisturizer that has an SPF. If you are going to be using something with SPF to protect your face, you might as well get something that has other benefits like anti-aging, moisturizing, or reduces red spots. I personally like this Aveeno moisturizer for anti-aging.
Protect under your Chin
You may have on sunscreen and be under the shade but don’t forget to make sure you have your neck and the area under your chin slathered in sunscreen as well. The UV rays will reflect off sand, concrete, water, and other surfaces directly onto those areas of your skin.
Sunglasses
Make sure to protect your eyes! UV damage can cause cataracts! I like using a good pair of sunglasses that have UV blocking lenses. They not only protect my eyes but the sensitive skin around my eyes as well. I got my pair from the Sunglasses Shop. They carry all kinds of cute designer sunglasses at affordable prices. I was able to get a pair from their Vogue Collection. I chose the 2778SB in Black to be exact. I love how much protection they give my face, they are wide without looking like I have “bug eyes”.
The sunglasses came in a cute, hard black case so I can keep them protected and slip them right into my purse or tote bag and easily find them. I love the detail on the sides. It looks like a little sparkly flower that gives it a really chick look. I love that my Vogue sunglasses are stylish and protect me from sun damage at the same time. The Sunglasses Shop has a wide range of brands and styles to choose from. I know that you will find one that you will love!
The Sunglasses Shop is going to help protect your face from the sun! They are offering one of my readers the chance to win their very own pair from the Vogue Collection. This is open Worldwide! Just fill out the Rafflecopter form below.
