I was in the shower the other day and I needed to shave my legs. I looked around and there wasn’t any shaving cream in my shower. How could this happen!? I looked around to see what else I could use so I grabbed the conditioner and it worked, even better then my shaving cream! This got me to thinking about other shaving cream alternatives and how they would make great frugal beauty tips.
I looked around my house and started to notice there were a lot of things I could use to shave instead of buying shaving cream. Why didn’t I do this years ago? I could have been saving money and quite honestly, getting a much closer shave. All of these items are inexpensive and you probably have them in your house anyway. Here are my top 5 shaving cream alternatives.
Conditioner
This was the first thing I tried when I ran out of shaving cream and I think it did the best job out of everything on this list. It actually did a much better job them the actual shaving cream. It stayed on and wasn’t running down my leg like I thought it might. Plus, it conditions the hair which makes it easier to cut. My legs felt so much smoother after I used this that I didn’t even have to use lotion.
Baby Oil
Baby Oil actually provides a protective layer for your skin when you are shaving. It helps prevent nicks and cuts while letting you get a close shave. It won’t gum up your razor like lotion will either. This can make your shower a bit slippery so make sure you rinse it well so you don’t slip.
Body wash
This is something else that is right in your shower so you don’t have to go searching for it. You can use a moisturizing kind to help your legs feel nice and smooth when you get out of the shower. This is probably my second favorite alternative. It is inexpensive and you are going to be using it anyway.
Shea Butter
Shea Butter can give you a real close shave without being as traumatic to the skin because it provides a layer of moisture. This is great for coarse hair because it will help to soften it. You won’t even have to moisturize when you are finished shaving.
Dish Soap
This is probably the least expensive item on the list and everyone has some of this in their home. I actually saw this alternative used on Dr. Oz. It helps get your skin clean and won’t cause any irritation.
Some of these shaving alternatives might help you save this summer. I didn’t try these to be cheap, it was something that came out of a need. I wanted to know what could I use if I run out of my shaving cream. I don’t think I will be buying shaving cream anymore though. I got a much better shave by using the conditioner and I think that is what I am going to be sticking with. Saving some extra money is just a nice little perk.

I might have to give conditioner a try! I have a ton of it around and shaving cream just falls right off my legs and feels like a waste of money.

Never heard of using dish soap -that’s a new one! I am a huge fan of coconut oil, it’s also great added to any bath. But watch out it gets slippery.
