I love books! I always have, even when I was a baby. I am so happy that my daughter shares my love for books. She can’t read yet but she loves to just sit and flip through her books looking at all the pictures. I read to her daily and I was so glad I came across Candlewick Press because they have some amazing books that are perfect for her age. We were sent a few books to read and Aria just loved them!
I love that Candlewick Press offers books for all ages, they have everything from baby board books all the way up to young adult books. There were so many adorable books for me to choose from that it was hard to narrow it down but we finally settled on three books to review:
Baby Animal Farm by Karen Blair
Yummy Yucky by Leslie Patricelli
Peep and Ducky by David Martin
Baby Animal Farm follows five toddlers as they go to the farm and see all the baby animals. It has each sound the animals make and my daughter loves when I make the noises. Apparently, I am hilarious! I love that it is a board book and she can flip the pages easily. The illustrations are cute and remind me of vintage drawings. The book is for ages 0-3 years. The sentences are very simple so I think this will be a book that may help her learn how to read when she is ready.
Yummy Yucky is another board book and it is also for ages 0-3 years. It is about a baby that tries things that are both yummy and yucky. For example, spaghetti is yummy, worms are yucky. The sentences are simple and they are pretty funny, at least to me. The pictures are very bright and Aria loves flipping through this book to see all of the illustrations. There are more books similar to this one by Leslie Patricelli and we liked this one so much that I would love to find some of those.
The last book we read was Peep and Ducky. It is about two friends, a duck and a chick, and how they spend their day at the park. The sentences rhyme which is fun for my daughter to hear. The illustrations are adorable and fun but this is a hardcover book and not a board book. I have to turn the pages because my daughter will just rip them, we are working on this though. It also has a dust cover but I had to take that off because yet again, she will just rip it off. I think I’ll have to put this one away until she is just a little bit older.
I enjoyed all the books we received from Candlewick Press. I know my daughter loved them too. She always smiles when I pull a book from the shelf. You can check out Candlewick Press’s Spring 2015 catalog to see all the latest titles and find something that your kids and family will love to read together.
