I must admit that one of the hardest nursery items to shop for was a crib mattress. You want something that is affordable, safe, comfortable for baby, and has great quality. I would find one quality I liked in several mattresses but it would be lacking in the other areas. Plus, there are just so many to choose from that it can be overwhelming. When Naturpedic asked me to review one of their crib mattresses, I jumped at the chance. They have a great reputation and I knew I would get a high quality product.
I chose to review the Naturpedic Organic Cotton 2-in-1 Ultra baby crib and toddler mattress. I think I made an excellent choice! This crib mattress is going to last us a very long time. It has 2 sides, one for the baby that is firm and waterproof and the other side for a growing toddler. The crib mattress will fit most crib frames and daybeds. The thing I love the most about this mattress is that it is certified organic. Not only the materials used to make it, but the final product is organic and Greenguard Select certified. I love knowing that my baby won’t be breathing in any harmful emissions from her mattress and that it is hypoallergenic.
The mattress fits perfectly in our crib. It has square corners so that it creates a snug fit. I don’t have to worry about the baby getting a hand or foot stuck in between the mattress and the crib. I like that the side for the infant is waterproof. You don’t have to use a mattress pad if you don’t want to but we already had one so I put on the mattress pad and the crib sheet and they both went on very easily. So I know I won’t have to struggle too much in that area. The mattress is a little heavy, so I might have to get some help manuvering it when I do have to change the sheets. But it might get easier when I don’t have a pregnant belly in the way! I did put a little bit of water on the waterproof side and it wiped right off. This will also help prevent any stains that might happen on other mattresses. I like that the infant side of the mattress is very firm and will be safe for my baby. It has a 252 coil innerspring that is in accordance with pediatrician recommendations.
When you flip the mattress over, you get a very soft, luxurious quilted side that is perfect for older kids. This side has a lot more “give” to it and it is quite comfortable. I love that this mattress will grow with my child and that helps save money in the long run. We bought a crib that can convert into a toddler bed and a full size bed so this will be perfect when we convert the crib. We won’t have to run out and buy a brand new mattress!
Naturpedic offers great quality products but they are a little pricey. The Organic Cotton 2-in-1 Ultra mattress will cost you $399. That is a lot but like I said, you get 2 mattresses in one and it will last you a long time. The quality really is great and I can tell that the edges are not going to wear and tear. They really use great fabric and it comes with a lifetime limited warrenty. Naturepedic uses only US grown cotton for it’s mattresses and they are only made in the USA. So not only are you getting a high quality product, but you are helping support US farmers which is something I stand behind.
Now for the good part. Naturepedic is being amazing and offering one of my readers the chance to win their very own crib mattress! Can you believe it?!! You can win the exact same crib mattress that I reviewed ($399 value)! All you have to do is fill out the form below. This is open to US residents only. No PO Boxes please.
Disclosure: Other than receiving a free sample of the product from Naturepedic, I was not paid for any of the opinions or reviews expressed on this blog. All opinons are my own.

My 9 month old got a “white noise” Winnie the Pooh bear for Christmas, and that thing is magical! We also use lavender baby wash and lotion right before bedtime.
