My boyfriend and I are huge Auntie Anne’s addicts. Every time we are at the mall we have to get several. We will pass by all the other pretzel places to get one of Auntie Anne’s pretzels, even if it is all the way on the other side of the mall. When I heard that Auntie Anne’s has an At-Home Baking Kit I knew we had to try it.
When the kit arrived, my boyfriend hounded me about when I was going to make them. I read the directions and it sounded like it was going to take some time, so I decided to make them on a Saturday. It took me over an hour to make the kit from start to finish so make sure you have plenty of time to make it. All the ingredients are included: dough, yeast, baking soda, cinnamon-sugar, and salt. The only thing extra I needed was water and butter.
They were really fun to make, and yes a little messy too. I could see this being a great activity for kids. The instructions were really straight forward and easy to follow. The kit makes 10 pretzels. I decided to make 6 with butter and salt and 4 with cinnamon-sugar. They were so good! They tasted just like the ones at the mall. They weren’t as buttery like the regular ones since I am trying to be a little healthier. I suggest cutting the baking time down to 4 minutes instead of 5 because mine were a little brown on the bottom. They were pretty much devoured within the first few hours. So I would call that a success!
There is so much you can do with Auntie Anne’s At-Home Baking Kit besides making pretzels. You can make pizza dough, wraps, pretzel dogs, and more. Auntie Anne’s is currently holding a 2013 Recipe Challenge. You can submit your own unique recipes using the dough and yeast from the Auntie Anne’s At-Home Baking Kit along with your favorite ingredients. Winners will receive $1,000, $500, or $250! You have until March 31st to get your entries in.
