We all want to surprise our partners with some fabulous date night on Valentine’s Day but sometimes our budget won’t allow something extravagant. Here are some frugal Valentine’s date ideas to show your sweetheart how much they mean to you. You don’t have to spend a fortune to make a magical, romantic night that you won’t forget.

Make a Homemade Dinner: This is the obvious way to save money but it is still a great idea. Make your partner’s favorite meal (and clean up the dishes) and they will be thrilled! Just add some candles and romantic music to set the mood. To make it more fun, you can make the meal together.
Have a Fondue Night: This would be so fun! Why go to The Melting Pot when you can make your own fondue with whatever you want? There are a ton of recipes online for fondue you can make in the crockpot if you don’t have a fondue set. Just get some fruits, chocolates, cheeses, and breads that are on sale to save even more.
Use Discount Certificates at Restuarants: If you still want to go out for a romantic dinner for two, make sure you check out Restaurant.com , CardPool, and Groupon for some great deals at local restaurants. You may even checkout your particular restaurant’s website to see any promotions they might be having.
Scavenger Hunt: This would be a really cute date. Make a scavenger hunt that has places that are special for the two of you like where you had your first kiss, where you got engaged, your first date, etc. At the end, it could lead back to you where you have a little gift for them.
Movie Night: You can have a great movie night in on the cheap. You can rent a movie from Redbox ( there are even some free codes available). Get boxed movie candy at Target, pop some popcorn, grab a blanket, and you are set. You could even have a theme like all romantic movies or all of your partner’s favorite movies! If you want to go to the theater, make sure you check out my post on how to save at the movie theater.
Have a Picnic: If the weather is nice enough, go to the park and have a picnic. This would be nice if you have dogs and could take them along too. The picnic could be as extravagant or as simple as you want to make it. If the weather is too cold, think about having it inside near the fire place.
