Sodastream is a great new product that lets you make soda in your own home! You use tap water from your own faucet and soda mix syrup that comes in a variety of flavors like cola, root beer, ginger ale, and even lemonade! I was so excited when I was sent my very own SodaStream to review. I have been wanting to try one of these for a while.
I received a Sodastream Jet soda maker and a variety of soda mix to try. I decided to try the cola flavor first. The first thing you do is fill up the carbonating bottle with regular tap water and place in the refrigerator until it gets very cold. The water has to be cold or the soda will end up tasting flat.
The carbonating bottles are BPA-free and have an expiration date. This is when you know to replace the bottle. Mine doesn’t expire until 6/13 so they last for about a year. The bottles are not dishwasher safe so you just rinse them out with warm water after each use and they clean up easily.
Once the water was cold, I hooked up the carbonator that contains the CO2 gas to the back. Make sure it is REALLY tight or you will be like me and keep pushing the button wondering why it isn’t working. Then I screwed on the bottle to the front of the Sodastream. You then push the button until you hear a buzz sound 3 times. The sounds are more like a loud “pop” and the dog did not like it. She started barking at the machine.
After that you just unscrew the bottle and pour in your sodamix. I thought it tasted great. I really couldn’t tell the difference between the Sodastream soda and my beloved Coke. I also tried the root beer flavor and it was delicious. I can’t wait to try some of the other flavors.
The sodamix runs about $4.99 per bottle and makes about 33 cans of soda (or 12 liters). That’s not a bad price when you consider most 12 packs are priced around $5-$6. The soda mixes actually have less calories, sodium, and sugar then regular soda. I compared the back of the soda mix to the back of my Coke and it was a lot healthier.
What I love is that you don’t have to be a soda drinker to love this product. I have been trying to drink more water so this is a great way to jazz up my H2O. Sodastream even offers water essence flavors to add to your water or you can just make plain sparkling water. They have tea flavors as well.
The thing I love most about Sodastream is that it is so eco-friendly. Every main part of the Sodastream is recyclable. One Sodastream reusable bottle can keep 2000 cans out of the landfill. That’s amazing! If you are big on recycling, like I am, this will mean less trips to the recycling bin. You won’t have to lug bottles and cans anymore. This also means less space is used up to store all those 12 packs and bottles.
I love the Sodastream, it is great for the environment and just plain fun. The prices start around $79 for the starter kit and include a fountain jet, carbonator, carbonating bottle, and soda mix variety pack. You can find them at Target, Walmart, Kohls, Bed Bath and Beyond, and Macy’s
