Top 5 Ways to Save on Maternity Clothes

ID-10089057

Once you find out you are pregnant, everything can get a little overwhelming. Especially how much everything is going to cost! You have plenty of time (9 months) to get everything you need ready for the baby. But you only have a couple of months left to fit into your normal clothes. This is where you can go overboard buying cute maternity clothes for yourself. There is no need to spend a small fortune on clothes you may only wear for a couple months. Trust me, maternity clothes can be expensive but there are some ways you can cut costs. Here are my top 5 ways to save on maternity clothes:

Shop Early: Once I found out I was pregnant, I started shopping online and in the stores for maternity clothes. It was spring time and all of the winter apparel was on sale and clearance. I knew I would really start showing around Nov-Jan so now was the time to stock up on my winter maternity clothes while they were all on sale. Everything I bought was at least 50% off. I didn’t go too crazy, just a few shirts and a pair of jeans to get me started. When I did start to show I didn’t have to run out and pay full price for any of my maternity clothes.

Don’t Shop Trendy Boutiques: I know they can be really cute but clothes from maternity boutiques like Destination Maternity and Pea in a Pod can be super expensive. I found some of the best deals on maternity clothes at places like Old Navy and Target. They usually have sales and coupon codes that you can use online too. Another great online place to shop is Zulily. They have a whole maternity section with new sales everyday.

Buy Clothes You Will Wear After Baby Arrives: All of the maternity tops I bought look like normal tops, they just have some stretch or ruching on the sides to accommodate a bigger belly. I could wear these tops when I was only a couple months pregnant all the way up to 9 months. I can even wear them after I’m pregnant as normal tops and no one will even know that they are maternity tops. This way I really get my money’s worth out of my clothes.

Shop Your (and Your Partner’s) Closets: One of the best things I did was to look at clothes I already had. I only had to buy the basics to get me through my pregnancy. I would pair a maternity tank with a cardigan or sweater that was already in my closet. Cardigans are great when you are pregnant! I would also raid my fiance’s t-shirts to wear around the house or run errands, they were the perfect size once I got past 7 months. I would even wear one of this jackets when it got cold so I didn’t even have to buy a maternity coat for the winter (they can be really expensive!).

Check out Craigslist, Ebay, and Friends: People try to get rid of their maternity clothes all the time. Make sure you check out Craigslist, Ebay, Goodwill, etc. and you can find some great deals. Yard sales are even a great idea to check out too. Most people only wear their maternity clothes a few times so they still look brand new. Also, if you have any friends that just had babies, ask if you can borrow their old maternity clothes. I would have no problem lending out mine.

Those are my top 5 tips to save on maternity clothes. I hope they help all you new moms out there. If you have any other tips and tricks please let us know in the comments.

Potty Training Your Puppy with The Puppy Apartment

This is a sponsored post.

Potty training a puppy can be a very frustrating experience for new dog owners. I remember trying to get my dog Sadie potty trained when she was little. It was not easy and I went through a lot of puppy pads. A puppy can be stubborn and leave a mess all over the house. Some puppy owners try to cover all of the floors with newspapers or other things that can absorb the wastes and urine of a puppy. This can get very messy and even ruin your floors.  Cats can be easily potty trained with litter boxes. Similarly, there are some ways that can be used to train a puppy to do its business in the right place. A special dog crate is designed to act as a bathroom and bedroom for a puppy. Modern Puppies is an example of a solution that provides potty training for puppies.

A simple traditional dog cage is divided into two sections via a barrier that has a small entrance for making the transition between two areas. One section is dedicated towards potty training and the other section has a bed where your puppy can sleep. The bathroom section of a puppy apartment is lined with special absorbent materials that won’t leave any mess from urine and wastes. It may take several weeks for a puppy to develop the right habits of potty training indoors in a special puppy apartment. Traditional potty training outside may not work for young puppies that are too frightened to spend a single minute in an outdoor setting with cold temperatures. Check out Modern Puppies to see if the puppy apartment will work for your little fur baby.

Meet My New Addition

Aria Hope

So, you may have been wondering why I haven’t been active on the blog lately. I have a really good reason, honest! I finally had my beautiful little baby girl, Aria Hope. Isn’t she the cutest thing you have ever seen?! I know I am a little bias. She has been taking up all of my time but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Baby Aria

Aria was born on 1/4 and I was in the hospital for a very long 4 days. I went to my doctor’s appointment like normal and they told me that my blood pressure was high. Since I was already 38 weeks, they thought it would be best to go ahead and induce me. It took 2 days for me to get to 10 cm. They were the longest 2 days of my life! But she finally came and I couldn’t be happier.

Aria

It has been an exhausting 2 weeks but I wouldn’t trade it for anything. Not just for me but for my dogs too. My oldest, Sadie, has become Aria’s little protector. Every time she cries, Sadie is right there checking to make sure she is OK. I can’t wait to share all of my parenting adventures…it should be interesting :) . I’m sure Aria will be up for reviewing products and giving her take on things just like her Mommy.

FabFitFun Box Review

I received the FabFitFun Winter box for a review. It is full of some great stuff! I received 10 items worth a total of $271.47. Considering you pay $49.99 for each box, you really get your money’s worth. Here are the items that were included in my FabFitFun Box:

The Giving Keys Never Ending Necklace: This is a cute necklace that has “Strength” written on the key. You are supposed to wear the necklace until you meet someone that needs the message more then you. You then give the key away to make their day a little brighter. I think this is a really neat concept and reminds us to pay it forward. ($55 value).

TruEnergy Inspired Earbuds: These are really pretty and bright earbuds that include a SoundShare splitter so you can listen to music with someone else. These are going to be great when I start going for walks again after the baby is born. ($39.99 value)

Beauty For Real Lip Gloss: This is a very bright red lip gloss but it is very pretty on. ($22 value)

Physique 57 Classes: I received a gift code for 5 free classes on the Physique 57 website. They have a variety of different exercises to choose from. Each cost around $5-$7 each. This will come in handy when I need to start loosing these pregnancy pounds! ($25 value)

Lorna Jane Bracelet: This bracelet is a very bright pink color and made out of a flexible plastic. It is supposed to remind you to “Move, Nourish, and Believe” every day. I think it looks kind of cheap and would be better fitted for a little girl. I don’t see myself ever wearing this. ($29.99 value)

Skyn Iceland Icelandic Relief Eye Cream: This stuff is great! I have used it a couple of times already and notice a difference in my under eye area immediately. My skin becomes so much softer. It is supposed to help with wrinkles, dark circles, and puffiness. I’ll need this for those sleepless nights coming up soon :) . ($45 value)

Bioxidea Miracle 24: This is a face mask that is supposed to reduce the signs of aging. I haven’t tried this one out yet. I’m going to save it until after the baby is born. ($19 value)

MeUndies Gift Card: I also received a $20 gift card to use at MeUndies.com. I looked around the site and they have undies for men and women, tees, and even socks. I would be able to buy one pair of underwear with the gift card. But I noticed that it is a subscription site and you would have to cancel your subscription after your first order so you won’t be charged again. I’m not a big fan of sites like this so I may have to pass on this one.

There were also two bonus items included in the box: Simple Foaming Facial cleanser ($7.49 value) and NYX Eye Shadow Palette ($8 value). I love the cleanser, it doesn’t dry out my skin and the eye shadow palette includes 5 different neutral colors. They would go great with any skin tone.

I am pretty pleased with the FabFitFun box. It has some really neat stuff that I would not have otherwise tried or even known about. The boxes are on the pricey side at $49.99 each but you do get some quality stuff. You can also use code Winter5 to get a $5 discount for new member sign ups. I do like that it is very easy to cancel your subscription. You can just go to their website and fill out the cancellation form if you are ever unhappy with your box. If you love trying the latest products, check out FabFitFun to see if it is right for you.
